The coronavirus pandemic has kept those responsible in Handtmann companies holding their breath for months. From the outset, extensive measures have been taken to prevent the further spread of the virus. Currently 27 employees at the Biberach site are infected (as of: 11 December).
"Fortunately, we currently have very few Level 1 contact persons", explains Jörg Hochhausen, Group Manager Human Resources. On average, there is currently less than one contact person for each infected person. "This is thanks to the comprehensive hygiene concept and the infection prevention measures taken in the individual companies as well as the courageous action of all those responsible in the event of infection, Jörg Hochhausen continues. A mask requirement on the entire company premises or the introduction of a contactless shift handover, for example via Skype, separating the use of social rooms and the like help in this respect.
"We're doing our best to contain the coronavirus at Handtmann".
A task force installed at the beginning of the pandemic quickly and individually initiates additional measures to protect other employees in the event of any detected case of infection. "The team is in regular contact with our company doctor for this purpose and works very closely with the responsible persons at the health department", explains Jörg Hochhausen. In case of suspicion, contact persons are also selectively and specifically tested for a possible infection. This was the case, for example, in two "escalation cases" in the first half of November, when quarantine was ordered at short notice for a large number of employees in two departments. "In one case, an infected employee had contact with nine other colleagues in his department, and in the other case an infected person had contact with five other people in his department". In the short term, this not only caused unrest and uncertainty among the staff, but also led to a standstill of work in both departments. "Such exceptional cases must be prevented at all costs in future".
"We are asking you: Stick to the rules"!
"Every individual is responsible for his or her own health", warns Jörg Hochhausen. "At the same time, it is also necessary to protect third parties from possible infection by acting considerately and in accordance with the rules - be it in private life or at work". Handtmann does not tolerate violations of applicable regulations in view of the alarming incidence of infection worldwide. "It is true that infections mainly occur in private environments", says Jörg Hochhausen. "Nevertheless, at Handtmann we also have a duty of care for our employees and the need to continue to provide for our customers. If the coronavirus situation were to force us to shut down entire parts of our operations by order of the health authorities, this would have a considerable negative impact on our business relations with our customers". Thanks to consistent follow-up, there are currently hardly any more violations, for example of the obligation to wear masks. "The existence of the virus and the need for mutual protection has now entered our minds".
