Handtmann receives €630 million order for high-voltage battery housings

The Handtmann Light Metal Casting division has won the largest order in the company's history from a well-known German OEM. This new order is for a high-voltage battery housing, which will serve as the entry-level platform for all future electric vehicles. For Handtmann, the order is a further milestone in the large-scale production of components for electromobility.

The development and design of the high-voltage battery housing were realised in very close cooperation with the customer. The focus was on an innovative, one-piece product design. The previous components consisted of around 130 individual parts. In addition to the huge substitution of individual components, which were previously mainly manufactured from extruded profiles, the one-piece design achieves a cost saving of around 30 per cent in production.

Handtmann's development expertise is evident in this highly integrative component with complex mechanical requirements. As a strategic and direct development partner for its customers, Handtmann concentrates its activities on the optimisation and further development of drive technologies and new lightweight construction concepts in conjunction with the expertise it has built up over many years.

Investments in the Biberach production site

In this context, Handtmann will make investments in the mid double-digit million range at the production site and headquarters in Biberach/Riss (Baden - Württemberg). This is the fundamental prerequisite for realising the future visions and new developments of Handtmann customers. As the largest family-run foundry in the 5th generation, Handtmann is pursuing this path purposefully and would like to make its contribution to efficient mobility.

In addition to the accelerated development of the Biberach/Riss site as a technology and innovation centre, this is a strong commitment to the production site. The plant in Biberach/Riss will become an important centre for the electric drivetrain.

Dirk Seckler (Managing Director Sales and Technical Development): "We are delighted that we were able to prevail against international competitors and win this order. Handtmann is known for its quality and flexibility. We see this as strengthening our strategic direction to continue on our ambitious future path as a development partner for our customers."

Jens Hansmeier (Plant Manager Production Biberach): "The growing importance of e-mobility also plays a central role at Handtmann. We see ourselves as a strong partner for the future of the automotive industry. Together with our customers, we are pursuing the consistent implementation of transformation through innovation."
