Handtmann receives state funding for innovation and technology projekt "Modular direct current system for hydrogen production".

Handtmann e-solutions GmbH & Co. KG, based in Ochsenhausen, has received a grant from the State of Baden-Württemberg as part of the Invest BW funding programme. In joint cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg, the company, a member of the Handtmann Group of Companies based in Biberach, had applied to the state for a research grant. Backed by member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament Thomas Dörflinger, the two collaboration partners were granted funding for a total project volume of 1.75 million euros over the two-year project period until October 2024 for the development of a modular direct current system for the production of hydrogen from renewable energy sources.

“The financial support not only helps us make the power electronics in the far advanced hydrogen electrolyser we developed more efficient and economical,” comments a delighted Markus Ammann, Managing Director at Handtmann e-solutions. “Together with the Fraunhofer Institute, we also work on linking the electrolyser intelligently with photovoltaic systems and battery storage units and taking it to market maturity. Green hydrogen is a core element of the future energy system and can make us independent from finite, fossil fuels, especially in light of the current energy crisis.” To this end, the Handtmann team is pushing ahead with the development of hydrogen technology together with the specialist of the Fraunhofer Institute. “We have found the perfect partner for this endeavour in the Fraunhofer Institute, because they are conducting research on all the topics relevant to this project, such as power electronics, grids and intelligent systems, photovoltaics, electrical energy storage units and hydrogen technologies.”

From experience, the state’s funds for research and development projects of this kind are always in high demand. “I gladly gave Handtmann e-solutions GmbH & Co. KG support for their project, because new technologies, sustainability, adequate employment and business location security are important issues for our economic region, and I am more than happy to advocate for them.” says Thomas Dörflinger, Member of the State Parliament of the CDU party for the Biberach constituency.
