Handtmann expands production capacities in Biberach

Division Systems engineering creates basis for new business

As an independent company within the Handtmann Group of Companies, Handtmann Systemtechnik GmbH & Co. KG in Biberach develops, tests and assembles components and entire systems primarily for the major brands in the automotive industry.

With a 3,500-square-metre expansion of the production area, the division Systems engineering wants to lay the foundation for new projects at the site in Biberach (Arthur-Handtmann-Straße) in order to be able to supply the plant with new business for the next few years. The demolition of existing buildings last year made room for the construction of the new extension to an assembly and logistics hall for Handtmann Systemtechnik GmbH & Co. KG was created. This construction project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2023. The hall is scheduled to be put into operation at the beginning of 2024.

"The new building has become necessary due to a customer order successfully acquired by Handtmann last year," explains Dirk Seckler, Managing Director of Handtmann Systemtechnik GmbH & Co. KG. "The order secures the employment of the existing employees at the site in the longer term and enables us to create additional jobs. As a reliable development partner to the automotive industry, we are also implementing high-voltage test bench areas in the new building so that we can provide powerful research and development support to our customers in the transformation towards electromobility."

Markus Handtmann, member of the company management, adds: "With this building project, the extent of the building use of the space at the Arthur-Handtmann-Straße location has now been largely exhausted. It is important for us that space resources are available at short notice, so that planning and realisation of new infrastructure and a start of production when customer orders are won can usually be guaranteed within less than two years."

Sustainable building

Sustainable action is firmly anchored as a corporate value at Handtmann and is taken into account accordingly in both construction measures. In addition to the installation of a photovoltaic system and extensive roof greening, investments are again being made in the expansion of the supply infrastructure. The use of the solar power generated by the company itself is increased by a medium-voltage interconnected network within the group of companies, and the waste heat available from the production process is used to heat all of the group's properties via a heat interconnection network. This sustainably reduces the use of fossil primary energy and thus the company's CO₂ footprint.
