On 5th December – the “Mitmachen Ehrensache” charity drive day – a total of four school students worked for a morning at Handtmann Metallgusswerk or at Handtmann Maschinenfabrik. As part of this fund-raising drive, the students did not accept payment for their work; instead they donated the fee agreed with the company to selected regional social projects and aid schemes.
Handtmann supports the commitment shown by the students
“When our teacher told the class about this charity drive, I decided to take part in it straight away,” Hannah (14 years old) told us. And her classmate Juliane explained, “The money that we earn will then be donated to the food bank in Riedlingen.” The amount of work put in by the students is manageable but the donation is extremely important for the Riedlingen food bank and for the voluntary support it provides for the needy. “We’re both working in the Marketing department of the Handtmann Metallgusswerk today from 8 a.m. to noon, that’s 4 hours,” explained Hannah. The two girls would have earned around € 53 for this. “The food bank will be really pleased with the donation. And there are further amounts of other pupils as well,” added Juliane (15 years old). Apart from this, the drive is a chance to experience something new and is a change from a morning in the classroom. They are currently in 9th grade at the Riedlingen grammar school. Their job at Handtmann is to pack gifts for customers and address them. Their assignment at Handtmann Metallgusswerk will then come to an end with a communal lunch. “The employees at Handtmann were very friendly to us from the start and we feel happy here,” said the two grammar school students, summing up their experience.
Malte and Luis are currently in 7th grade at the Bischof-Sproll-Bildungszentrum grammar school in Rissegg. They worked at Handtmann Maschinenfabrik on the charity drive day. Preparing work step slips for the filing department, packing order documents in their envelopes for production, filing delivery notes and change memos, and taking folders to the filing department were Luis’s jobs in the Production Control/External Processing department. On the charity drive day, Malte helped the secretaries of the Head of Production to sort files, prepare documents for shredding and label folders. Also, they were both taken on a tour of production where they found out more about the production methods and product range of the filling and portioning systems manufacturer; before their assignment came to an end with a communal lunch, too. The wages for the work of the two young people, once again around € 53, will be donated to charitable projects.
Wages benefit charity projects in the region
The Handtmann Group of Companies is very happy to support this drive as it encourages young people to work voluntarily for good causes. The “Mitmachen Ehrensache” charity drive day is aimed at school students from 7th grade upwards at Baden-Württemberg’s general education and vocational schools. More information is here available.
