Examples of resource-conserving Handtmann technology
Alginate casing instead of animal casing
As the inventor of ConPro technology, the responsible use of resources across the entire value chain is one of our top priorities. Handtmann ConPro technology makes it possible to replace natural casings from animals with a purely vegetable alginate casing for the production of sausage products and other Foods.
As an inventor and pioneering company, Handtmann Maschinenfabrik has been intensively involved with all aspects of this technology in this area for more than a decade. Today, the innovative, patented Handtmann Maschinenfabrik technology enables producers to exploit the enormous potential of alginate technology to the full, in the area of sustainable product development in particular, such as faux meat products or vegetarian and vegan foods.
Energy-efficient servo technology
Vacuum filling and portioning technology
Handtmann meets the enormous consumption of energy in the food processing industry with significant investments in the development of sustainable technology. The latest example for low energy consumption is the VF 800 vacuum filler series. The filling machine's drives are designed and certified in accordance with energy efficiency criteria (TÜV-SÜD-EME standard). Handtmann vacuum filling machines employ highly energy-efficient servo axes. They consist of a servo inverter and a servo motor. The use of synchronous motors brings additional advantages in terms of energy efficiency and a compact design, so that the servo axes achieve an overall efficiency of more than 90 %.
Energy consumption of a vacuum filling machine:
- Average power consumption: 12 kW
- Operating hours: 4,000 h/year
- Energy savings: approx. 15 %
- Energy savings in kWh/year: 4,000 x 12 x 0.15 = 7,200 kWh
- CO2 savings: approx. 4,000 kg/year

In addition to energy efficiency, this also includes, for example, hygienic design for reducing cleaning work, water consumption and the use of detergents.
Factory re-engineering of second-hand machines
Re-engineering instead of scrapping. For the benefit of the environment
As an alternative to buying a new machine, we offer our customers factory re-engineered second-hand machines. In this way, we play our part in slowing down the depletion of raw materials, saving energy and reducing the cost on the environment and the human race. Handtmann machines are fully dismantled and reconditioned completely and professionally in a dedicated Second-hand Machine Centre. Customers throughout the world thus benefit from modern, future-proof technology in renowned Handtmann quality. Reliable, top quality standards ensure a long service life and the long-term effective performance of the machines and Systems.
