Produktmanager

“A down-to-earth yet modern company”

Steffen Hepp, Product Manager at Handtmann Armaturenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG

“Between 2001 and 2004, I completed a dual mechanical engineering degree at Handtmann Maschinenfabrik and then worked in Development/Design. I then went out into the world, to companies such as Krones AG, a customer of Handtmann Armaturenfabrik. I was abroad a lot at that time. For family reasons, we returned to our old home at the end of 2013. Handtmann knew me, I knew Handtmann and so we came to terms. My training manager had really regretted my absence from Handtmann at the time. But now I can contribute the experiences I gathered at other companies.

My task at Handtmann Armaturenfabrik is to build up and expand the area of product management. Apart from structural issues, I also fulfil the classic tasks of a product manager: for example, market and competition monitoring or the development of product strategies and innovations. I find it interesting how I get to work with both customers and a wide range of colleagues. I stand on both sides of the fence, so to speak, and negotiate between customer and company, and vice versa.

It’s also great that the employees here at Handtmann Armaturenfabrik are involved in the company’s strategic and organisational development. It may be extra work, but it enables us to create ideal and sustainable processes. Identifying for yourself what has to change in order to continue to grow profitably is often better than being told what to do by others. There is also little red tape at Handtmann due to the flat hierarchies. It is clear who is responsible for what, and the decision-making channels are short. That increases the speed at which we can serve our customers.

I’m very satisfied with my work environment and the collaboration with my colleagues. Handtmann offers a range of notable benefits: an open seminar programme, in which everyone can take part, a canteen, parking spaces, an occupational old-age pension and occupational health management. There’s also very little red tape here. For example, purposeful training courses are approved without discussion. As my wife also works, the flexi-time arrangements at Handtmann are a good way to balance work and family life.

I rate the opportunities for personal development at Handtmann as being very good. With a certain level of commitment, you can develop yourself here professionally and in depth. That's thanks to the flat hierarchies on the one hand and the different companies within the Handtmann Group on the other. My experience of Handtmann is as a down-to-earth yet modern company. The door to management is always open and communication is always highly constructive and honest. Arthur and Thomas Handtmann are always dropping by. It motivates me to know that the people who own and run the company are also interested in the details.”
