“My tip: Apply today!”
Joanna Aberle, Materials Management/Planning Clerk at Handtmann Systemtechnik GmbH & Co. KG
“I actually studied tourism, and only started working at Handtmann as a machine operator in 2002 to pay off my tuition fees. I ended up liking it so much that I stayed.
After three years at the machines, I was promoted to the workshop office, where I worked for the plant manager as a typist. In 2007, I had the opportunity to move into Purchasing, where I’ve been responsible for materials planning ever since. I coordinate the orders, so that all parts are delivered on time and ensure that stock levels are high enough to enable manufacturing to continue without interruption.
My work is never boring and offers something new every day. I’m able to work very independently. Working in my team is really good fun: everyone works for the other and we all support each other. I enjoy this interaction and the fact that there’s always something going on here. That’s why I returned to work part time soon after the birth of my two sons - after one year with the first child, and after just three months with the second working part-time. What’s more, I didn’t want to lose touch with the work. I’m able to strike a good balance between family life and work because the company takes care of my needs. I can always talk to my line manager, who supports me if I have any problems.
I think Handtmann offers very good opportunities for advancement, which is evident from my career. You don’t get something for nothing, but if you show initiative, your efforts will be rewarded. The company also has its own seminar programme and I’ve also been able to attend external seminars. My boss encouraged it and made a few suggestions.
I would definitely recommend Handtmann as an employer. Apart from the opportunities to climb through the ranks, it’s mainly the social aspects that really sets Handtmann apart. The fact that Handtmann is family-owned gives me a sense of security. What’s more, Handtmann is constantly developing. You only have to look at the photos of the site past and present to see how big everything has become. And I think we’ve still got a lot of growing to do. My tip: Apply today!”
