“Handtmann is international, yet rooted in the region”
Armin Büchele, Head of Application Engineering at Handtmann Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG
“I joined Handtmann Maschinenfabrik as an application engineer in 2006, having graduated with a degree in food engineering. The practical experience I previously gained while training to become a butcher and at master school was a big advantage for me.
The application engineers in my team mainly assist colleagues from Sales in supporting new and existing customers. For example, they carry out trainings, help customers solve problems, demonstrate machines and collaborate on the development of customer-specific products.
As an employer, Handtmann offers me good possibilities for developing myself. I was initially promoted from application engineer to group leader. Since January 2015, I’ve been a team leader and head up a team of sixteen application engineers. In order to prepare for my new position, I took part in a two-year promotion programme.
Because we manufacture food processing systems, our customers are primarily producers of meat products, bakeries or dairies – covering everything from artisans to large food companies. Germany is an important market for us, but the systems made by Handtmann Maschinenfabrik have long since been found on all continents.
Handtmann Maschinenfabrik operates in an environment of tough, international competition. At the same time the company takes the interests of its employees into consideration. Such employers are far from commonplace. You can simply tell that Handtmann is a family company.
It’s great for me to work in an international setting, yet remain rooted in the region. Another advantage is the corporate culture. We speak openly with one other and don’t think in hierarchies but in terms of goals and solutions. What I also find positive is how the employees are shown so much trust. I'm motivated by how I can take many decisions in my day-to-day work myself.”
